Celebrate the river and cold at Shiver in the River

Clean-up, festival fun, and river plunging.

Join other river lovers on Saturday, January 31st at Tredegar to celebrate the James River. Activities range from the noble (river clean-up), to the fun (food/drinks/music), to the insane (jumping in the river) at Shiver in the River.

The fun starts at 12:00 PM with the river clean-up and the opening of the Winter Festival. For the clean-up individuals and registered groups will spread out along the James and pick up the trash that always seems to be plaguing the river. For the Winter Festival individuals and groups will spread out along Tredegar and buy beer, food, check out vendors and listen to music.

Around 1:00 PM everyone will gather and watch brave souls jump into the river. If you want to be a brave soul you’ll need to do a bit of fundraising. All funds raised are for Keep Virginia Beautiful in an effort to increase programs that support litter prevention, community outreach, education, recycling and beautification for Richmond and Virginia.

After the plunge, all will gather for beverages, food, and music and then the festival will wrap up at 3:00 PM.

Register for the clean-up or the plunge online, you’ll also be able to register on Friday, January 30th at Capital Ale House Downtown from 4-7:00 PM.
