Each semester we search the Virginia countryside far and wide for the perfect set of interns to complete the RVANews team. Perhaps, this year, you are the <s>droids</s> interns that we're looking for.

This semester we need to fill two specific roles.

Editorial

As the editorial intern, you will become an important part of the RVANews staff, working with our team to brainstorm and develop content for our website. We’ll expect you to not only produce feature-length stories but also assist with the daily development and implementation of our regular content.

You will be held to the standards of style, accuracy, fairness, and deadlines maintained by RVANews and will be responsible for completing necessary research, making contacts, and establishing sources during the internship period.

Intern Requirements

15 hours per week (majority in-office hours)

Multiple stories (~750 words) per month

One long-form feature article (greater than 2500 words) per semester

This position is based out of our office located at 1520 W. Main Street. Some local travel will be required for research and interviews. You must be able to provide your own transportation.

The position is unpaid. However, it is eligible for class credit if approved by your school.

To apply: please e-mail a cover letter, two writing samples, and a list of three potential stories pertaining to the Richmond-area that you'd be interested in covering to scott@rvanews.com with "Editorial Intern" in the subject line.

— ∮∮∮ —

Photography

As the photography intern you’ll be expected to photograph Richmond’s most interesting events, people, and places. You’ll also help us brainstorm ideas for photo essays and snap some pictures for our weekly columns.

Intern Requirements

10 hours per week (majority of hours outside of the office)

Photos for 2-3 weekly columns

Photos for one featured story per week

One long-form photo essay per semester

This position is mostly out-of-office work, but some time will be spent in our office at 1520 W. Main Street. Some local travel will be required, and you must be able to provide your own transportation.

The position is unpaid. However, it is eligible for class credit if approved by your school.

To apply: please e-mail a cover letter, a link to your portfolio, and three potential photo essay ideas to scott@rvanews.com with “Photography Intern” in the subject line.

Ho there, reader of RSS feeds!
