VCU Jazz to perform at Nelson Mandela memorial service in D.C.

Alumnus and faculty will play the ceremony at The National Cathedral on Wednesday.

VCU alumni musicians, including No BS! Brass Band co-founder Reggie Pace, will perform Wednesday at the Nelson Mandel Memorial Service at The National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. VCU Jazz’s partnership with the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa fostered the invite to the national memorial service of the famed anti-Apartheid leader.

The planned musical selections:

  • “Just a Closer Walk with Thee” • traditional
  • “That We Might Walk Free” • Antonia Garcia
  • “Sobukwe”1 • Ezra Ngcukana

The 11:00 AM memorial service is schedule to be streamed online. However, the musical prelude will not be broadcasted.
