VCU homecoming parade to disrupt traffic briefly on Saturday

Avoid Broad Street between 11 and 11:30 AM on Saturday.

On the positive side at least it won’t be happening at 5:00 PM on a weekday.

From the Press Release:

Virginia Commonwealth University Police expect temporary disruptions in downtown traffic as vehicles in VCU’s homecoming parade travel through Richmond on Saturday, Feb. 28.

There will be rolling road closures starting at 11 a.m. until approximately 11:30 a.m. The parade is expected to feature 30 floats, trucks and bands along with 300 participants.

The parade route starts on Lombardy Street near the Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School and will continue onto West Broad Street. The parade will travel east on Broad Street, turn onto North Laurel Street and will continue onto Floyd Avenue. The parade route ends at the intersection of Floyd Avenue and Cherry Street.

VCU Police officers will be posted along the parade route and will lead parade vehicles through the VCU area; officers will also travel behind parade traffic. Travel lanes on the affected streets will reopen as the parade passes through.

Drivers are encouraged to take alternate routes to avoid delays.
