State Capitol tops PBS list of buildings that changed America
An upcoming PBS documentary will feature the Virginia State Capitol, giving the landmark the top spot among buildings that changed America.
Virginia House Speaker Del. William Howell (R-Stafford) announced Monday that a national PBS documentary, 10 Buildings That Changed America, has put the Virginia State Capitol at the top of its list. The one-hour show will air Sunday, May 12th at 10:00 PM.
“Virginia’s beautiful and historic State Capitol is a source of true pride for all Virginians,” Speaker Howell said. “The Capitol is an architectural masterpiece, historical treasure and monument to Democracy. Its design has inspired numerous other capitol buildings, including the United States Capitol in Washington D.C. Its history and traditions are rivaled by few other single buildings in America. It is the foundation for modern Democracy and an enduring sign of the strength of our Commonwealth and our nation.”
The upcoming television special, hosted by Emmy Award-winning producer and program host Geoffrey Baer, will highlight 10 buildings that altered how Americans live, work, and play. Other buildings to be featured include: Wainwright Building (St. Louis, MO ); Walt Disney Concert Hall (Los Angeles, CA); and Dulles International Airport (Chantilly, VA).
10 Building That Changed America will air on Sunday, May 12th at 10:00 PM. An interactive mobile website related to the special will launch on May 8th.
