Senate votes to delay action on “personhood” bill

The Senate has voted to suspend the controversial HB1 legislation, so-called the “personhood” bill that would give rights to fertilized eggs

Today the Virginia Senate re-referred controversial bill HB 1, the so-called “personhood” bill that would give fertilized eggs the rights of people, to committee and essentially killing the bill for this legislative session.

Earlier today, the bill made its way out of the Education and Health Committee in an 8-7 vote. When put to the full Senate, however, the bill received a 24-14 vote for it to be sent back to committee and carried over into the 2013 legislative session.

I can’t help but wonder how much this “personhood” issue is an attempt to distract from another “personhood” issue.
