Science Pub RVA gets brainy on the Northside

Talk with Mark Reimers, PhD about exactly what is going on in that noggin of yours.

Science Pub RVA is all about making science fun and accessible to average folks. One of the ways they do this is by meeting in casual environments where the social lubricant of alcohol is present. For the first time ever they’re meeting on the Northside at Brookside Bar & Grille (7515 Brook Road) on Wednesday, November 5th.

Details on the event.

What’s on your mind? That’s the question of the night when neuroscientist Mark Reimers walks into a North Side RVA bar and fields your questions on Wednesday, November 5th.

Do people really only use 10% of their brains?
Are some people really “left-brained” and others “right-brained”?
Do animals imagine and plan?
Will I be able to take ‘smart’ pills to improve my memory?
What’s the most exciting thing coming to come out of the Brain Initiative so far?
How well can scientists ‘read minds’ with brain scans?
Ask away!

Neuroscientist Mark Reimers invites you to an evening that’s all about you and your brain. In fact, the question of the night is very much “what’s on your mind”, as he’s agreed to lead a wholly question-based science pub experience. So bring your curious self and we’ll explore myths, mysteries and facts about brains. Dr. Reimers is hoping to debunk some lore, discuss the kernels of truth that enable them to persist and also explore the mysteries that drive creative brain research.

Brainteaser Trivia starts at 6:15 PM and an informal discussion based on questions from the crowd begin at 6:30 PM.
