With the required signatures counted for the upcoming City Council and mayoral elections, it’s now official that Dwight C. Jones will be unopposed in his bid for reelection as mayor. Michael K. Ryan Jr. and L. Shirley Harvey, both mayoral hopefuls, didn’t have enough signatures accepted by the Registrar, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch. The only other person to announce a mayoral run had been Rick Tatnall. He, however, dropped out of the race in early June saying that he’d realized that holding the office would actually hinder his efforts to act as an advocate for Richmond.
When asked about the Mayor’s reaction to this news, Tammy Hawley, spokeswoman for the mayor’s office, said “he still intends to work hard for Richmond residents’ votes.” This includes campaigning and engaging the community to effectively get their message out.
