Good Morning, RVA: Get your sweatin’ done

Hot and humid today, but a cold front moves through tonight.

Good morning, RVA! It’s 70 °F, and the humidity continues for at least another day. Expect highs in the 90s and isolated thunderstorms this afternoon before a cold front moves through. Tomorrow, temperatures may not even break 70 °F, so get all your sweatin’ done today.

Last night, the mayor withdrew his proposed Shockoe stadium plan from the City Council agenda which prevented Council from voting it down–of course, it prevented them from possibly passing it as well. Mayor Jones will host an informational meeting for council members on Thursday where he claims all the glorious details of his plan will be laid bare. Sure. The RTD’s Graham Moomaw has more on last night’s meeting.

Tonight at 7:00 PM the Richmond Kickers face New York Greek American Atlas at City Stadium in have third round of the US Open Cup. Should the Kickers win tonight, they’ll face Major League Soccer’s New England Revolution on June 18th at home. That’s a professional sports team playing in RVA and we didn’t even have to build them a stadium or anything!

President Obama announced that the number of American troops in Afghanistan would fall to 9,800 after this year–just three years ago over 100,000 troops were stationed there.
