Good Morning, RVA: Don’t worry too much

Unless you’re headed north today, tonight’s winter weather shouldn’t impact your life all that much.

Good morning, RVA! It’s 40 °F right now and raining, but you’re most likely unconcerned with today’s forecast (it’ll warm up a bit and continue to rain) and focused on tonight’s looming prospect of snow. Well, the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory from 8:00 PM tonight until 12:00 PM on Tuesday, predicting 1-2 inches of accumulation in some spots. I suppose you can get your #milkandbread on, if you must.

Richmond BizSense ruins my morning with the news that the Westhampton Theater will close by then end of 2015. Seeing a movie in the upstairs theater at the Westhampton is/was one of my most favorite things in the world.

RVA’s premier food awards, Richmond Magazine’s The Elbys, have come and gone, leaving in their wake tired, overbeveraged food writers and restaurateurs. See the winners here. If you see any them in real life this morning, buy them a cup of coffee and maybe a breakfast sandwich.

While weather geeks expect little snow for our area, eccentric Facebook weather aficionado WxRisk has a serious blizzard headed towards most of the Northeast, including New York City and Boston. I’ve seen “largest ever” and “historic storm” thrown around in headlines this morning. If you’ve got travel plans you may want to reconsider.

Sports!

  • #2 Wahoos survived the Hokies as a last-second 3-pointer rimmed out.
  • #16 Rams escaped Saint Louis with their 11th straight win.
  • Spiders fell to Dayton, 60-63.

How MLK Convinced Nichelle Nichols to Stick With Star Trek

Well, this is unexpected.

At the dinner, Nichols was approached by none other than Martin Luther King, Jr., who introduced himself as a serious “trekkie,” and her biggest fan. King begged her not to give up the role.
