Fourth of July in Westover Hills includes Children’s Parade and fireworks viewing

Family fun abounds.

From Westover Hills Neighborhood Association:

Get ready to decorate those bicycles, scooters and strollers for the annual Westover Hills Neighborhood Fourth of July Parade on Saturday, July 4, at 10 a.m. Wear your red, white, and blue, and deck out your pets, too!

The parade will begin at the intersection of Peterborough and Sylvan Road and conclude at 5021 Sylvan Road, where you can socialize with neighbors and have that Fourth of July snow cone before you continue on to other celebrations.

This simple, fun, festive neighborhood tradition continues now for the 14th consecutive year. The children who participated in the first parade are now 16 years old! (Ed: The picture above is from 2009.) Come be a part of it! Children love to have neighbors come out to line the streets and cheer them on!

And as usual parts of Riverside Drive will be closed to view the fireworks at Dogwood Dell.

The WHNA will again sponsor street closings on Saturday, July 4, so folks may safely view the fireworks display at Dogwood Dell.

Riverside Drive will be closed from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. in the area between Prince Arthur and Evelyn Byrd, and also from New Kent to Breckenridge on the other side of the railroad bridge. These closings protect the safety of spectators by preventing traffic and parking in these areas.

You can also catch the fireworks from the steps of Westover Baptist Church (1000 Westover Hills Blvd).
