Discount grocer Aldi announces Boulevard, Forest Hill stores

The German chain is planning a total of seven locations around Metro Richmond.

As workers put the finishing touches on the Richmond area’s first Aldi discount grocery store on Parham Road near Regency Square Mall, the German chain has announced two more locations.

Aldi plans to open a location at 927 Myers Street off The Boulevard, razing one of the last standing former Bill’s Barbecue locations. The grocer signed a 20-year lease on the 1.3 acre property, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch. It will open sometime in 2016.

The announcement continues a recent redevelopment spurt along Boulevard–the new store is adjacent to the recently opened Starbucks and Growlers To Go.

In South Richmond, Aldi plans to build a new store in the 7300 block of Forest Hill Avenue, although an exact location has yet to be pinpointed.

The chain touts its low prices and stocks primarily store brands in its stores.

Elsewhere in the area, Aldi has stores either planned or under construction in Mechanicsville, Chesterfield, and off Staples Mill Road in the Near West End.
