Buddhist monk invites community out for meditation, prayer, and food Sunday

The event takes place Sunday from 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM at 2572 Park Green Way in Glen Allen.

From the Richmond Times-Dispatch:

A Buddhist monk from Bhutan is seeking to establish a temple in Henrico County — but first he wants to introduce his neighbors to the religion’s teachings in an event this weekend.

Nar Gurung, whose brother owns a south Asian specialty store on Blue Jay Lane in Henrico, has been in the U.S. for one year and already misses traveling in Bhutan, Nepal and India teaching Buddhism.

“I’m not going to go to my culture only,” he said. “I want to invite all the people, not only the Buddhist.”

The event today and Sunday will include free vegetarian food, meditation workshops, prayer and readings from 20 sacred texts of Buddhism and Hinduism. The event will go from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at 2572 Park Green Way in a residential neighborhood in Glen Allen.

Seeking to establish a temple, Gurung wants to introduce the community–both the faithful and curious–to the Buddhist religion and culture.
