Liner Notes:
Oh yes, love. That’s the theme this week in preparation for Valentine’s Day which is this Sunday in case you have forgotten. For me, this Valentine’s Day marks the 15th anniversary of my first date with my wife. We went to see Gil Scott-Heron.
We’ve been together ever since.
But, as anyone who has been in love can surely attest, this feeling called love isn’t always sugar and spice and everything nice. Sometimes it is a bitch. While I do explore the gooey, lovey-dovey side of affection, I felt compelled to include tunes that give voice to the dark and disturbing aspects of the emotion so as not to diminish the sentiment with cheap sentimentality. Love is like driving a car with a broken gas gauge. You never know how far it will go. Also, what is the one thing that bonds all your love relationships together? They all came to an end. For someone who has been with the same person for 15 years, I can offer no secrets in maintaining a relationship. All I can say is that I am lucky as I’ve fucked up many relationships prior to meeting my wife. Maybe she has a soft spot for dumb people? I don’t know. I’m just happy that she tells me that she still loves me.
Anyway, whatever the state of your romantic life, I hope you enjoy this love-themed show.
Here are some shows I’m helping to put on at Balliceaux this week in the hopes of getting you laid.
Kicking off the week of possible coitus is DJ Doddie back for his every other Monday gig. On Thursday, the 6-female DJ tag team known as Cherry Bomb presents a Sadie Hawkins Dance. David Shultz and The Skyline, The Great White Jenkins and Pepi Ginsberg get all hot and heavy on Friday and the indestructible force known as Soul Power spins the pre-recorded funky good stuff on Saturday. As always, all these events are free and open to people 21 years and older.
NEXT NEW SHOW: 2/15/10
The complete set list for this week’s show is posted here. All previous show set lists (90 as of this writing) are on my blog. If you hate MySpace (and who doesn’t?), look me up on Facebook. I post track listings there as well.
2 hours of Bopst Show programming airs Sundays, 10AM-12PM (EST-USA), on KAOS Radio Austin.
