Liner Notes:
Chris Bopst had an article in the most recent issue of Brick concerning the recent murders by a “Horror Core” Rapper [The column in question, “Music Doesn’t Kill People” can be considered here]. This would have been a great chance to focus on violent media and violent actions and whether or not a connection actually exists. Instead we get a bloated, old hipster ranting about how horrible the music is and calling one of the female rappers a bitch.
Great job Chris! I’m not sure why anyone continues to give you a chance to speak your mind (instead of just letting you playing songs on the radio, which seems to be your only talent). Do us all a favor and save the asinine and pointless rants about which music you think is “lame” to the coffee shop you spend most of your time at. And please, please, please, leave journalism up to those who can actually write an article that has at least a little to do with the topic.”

Read your article in Brick about first friday success but cant figure out how to respond there on the computer. You pointed how first fridays has revitalized downtown thru the free enterprise of the citizens, compared to the 6th street market place and main st. station flops which were basically govt. sponsered enterprises. I couldnt agree more on the superiority of free market capitalism vs. socialist govt. intervention. Dont you think its pathetic in light of this how the Richmond city govt. has ratched up its burreaucrtic pressure on the owners of the galleries and stores at first fridays which acts as a detriment of the success of first fridays. In your article you said we need to work hard to keep first fridays a success, keeping the govt. out of it will definetly be a step in the right direction.

Agreed, but the real winning trick would be to have both work together. The Performance Arts Center needs to realize that their future is linked to the continued health & success of First Fridays. Of coarse, Richmond has a long and sorted history of fucking itself, but this is the first time that both the above & below ground have a vested interested in seeing both succeed.
