Liner Notes:
This week’s show was completed in a fraction of the time that it took to create the other (as of this writing) 86 shows available to you here. Usually it would take several hours over the coarse of days to put a show together, but thanks to my mother-in-law & her gift of a new computer, I no longer have to work using antiquated equipment. I am finally working with 21st century technology. Thanks Judy. You rock…
On to the show.
Does anybody actually believe the story of Adam & Eve? Maybe a few diehard Christians do, but not me. I believe we crawled up from the primordial ooze and evolved into what we are today. Raymond Scott was a pivotal figure in that process. He is to music what the thumb is to the hand. Queenie Lyons represents mankind’s attempts at standing upright. The funk ain’t no sit down shit. When I hear singers sing in different languages, I imagine they are singing gibberish. And what sweet, sweet seductive gibberish Kitty Hoff is to these non-German understanding ears. The audio unknown always appeals to me greatly. Here & now sound makers M.I.A, & The CSC Funk Band are part of the eternal process to push things forward. It requires diligence. And when you are watching the Golden Girls, the most important thing to remember is that old age ain’t for sissies. Tokyo’s Coolest Combo is a throwback to things worth remembering. So is Charles Bernstein, Roy Brown, William S. Burroughs and The Butthole Surfers. Just don’t be foolish enough to get all sentimental about it. Regression is so unbecoming. I wish Vic Chesnutt didn’t off himself. That totally sucked. I can’t decide which cover version of a famous song on this week’s show I like better. The one by Jonathan & Darlene Edwards or the one by Willy Mason. For straight up room clearing at Applebees, the Edwards’ number wins clearly, but Mason’s take proves that there is the thinnest of lines between country/folk and hip hop.
Here are two shows I’m helping to put on at Balliceaux this week.
NEXT NEW SHOW: 1/25/10
The complete set list for this week’s show is posted here. All previous show set lists (87 as of this writing) are on my blog. If you hate MySpace (and who doesn’t), look me up on Facebook. I post track listings there as well.
2 hours of Bopst Show programming airs Sundays, 10AM-12PM (EST-USA), on KAOS Radio Austin.
