Road closures for the 10k

For those of us who don’t help make up the 37,000 participants scheduled to run in this weekend’s Monument Avenue 10k, there’s really only one thing on our minds: road closures.

For those of us who don’t help make up the 37,000 participants scheduled to run in this weekend’s Monument Avenue 10k, there’s really only one thing on our minds: road closures.

And, well, there are a lot. If you’re not running/cheering/etc. you’re being advised to just avoid city streets and use I-95 and I-195 around the city. But here are the specifics, courtesy of Sports Backers:

Broad Street will be closed between Belvidere Street and Lombardy Street from 4am to Noon. The recommended detour for westbound traffic is right on Belvidere Street to 95 North. The recommended detour for eastbound traffic is left on Allen Avenue, right on Leigh Street, right on Belvidere. Motorists are encouraged to use I-95 as an alternate.

Laurel Street will be closed between Main and Grace Street from 4am to 3pm.

Franklin Street will be closed between Shafer Street and Belvidere Street from 4am to 2:30pm.

Cathedral Place will close from Laurel to Shafer Court from 4am to 3pm.

Park Avenue will close from Shafer Court to Lombardy Street/Stuart Circle from 6am to 9am.

Lombardy Street will be closed between Broad Street and Franklin Street (Stuart Circle) from 7am to 2:30pm.

Lombardy Street will be closed between Stuart Circle and Park Avenue from 7:30am to 8:30am.

Franklin Street will be closed between Lombardy Street and Shafer Street from 7am to 2:30pm.

Grace Street will be closed between Belvidere Street and Allen Avenue from 7am to 11am.

Monument Avenue / Franklin Street will be closed between Staples Mill Road and Stuart Circle (Lombardy Street) from 7am to 2:30pm. The recommended detour for eastbound traffic is left on Staples Mill Road, right on Broad Street, left on Allen Avenue, right on Leigh Street, right on Belvidere Street. The recommended detour for westbound traffic is right on Belvidere Street, left on Leigh Street, left on Allen Avenue, right on Broad Street.

The Boulevard will be closed at Monument Avenue from 8:30am to 1pm. The recommended detour for northbound traffic is left on Park Avenue, right on Thompson Street to 195. The recommended detour for southbound traffic is right on Grace Street, right on Thompson Street, left on Broad Street, left on Hamilton Street to 195.

There will also be numerous street closings for all north and south streets intersecting Monument Avenue/Franklin Street between Staples Mill Road and Belvidere Street.

And as far as parking for the race goes:

Free parking is available on streets throughout the area. To lessen your chances of getting stuck in traffic, please avoid the Belvidere exits off of I-95 and I-195. Instead, go further east and exit on 3rd Street, Broad Street, or Franklin Street.

Paid parking ($5 per vehicle) is available in parking decks located at 801 W. Main Street (between Laurel and Cherry streets), at 1101 W. Cary Street (corner of Cary and Harrison Street), 609 Bowe Street (next to the Siegel Center) and 100 S. Jefferson Street (between Cary and Canal Street).

Please note that Broad Street (between Belvidere and Lombardy) and Franklin/Monument Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic on race morning. To access the parking decks in the area, please use:

Main Street deck: Take I-195 to the Idlewood exit. Make a left turn onto Cherry Street to the entrance to the deck.

Cary Street Deck: Traveling east on Cary Street, the deck will be located on your right at the intersection of Harrison Street.

Bowe Street deck: Exit I-95 at the Boulevard and head south (right). Make a left turn onto Leigh Street. Travel east to Bowe Street and make a right turn(one block east of Lombardy). Go south and the parking deck will be on your left.

Jefferson Street deck: Traveling east on Cary Street, the deck will be located on your right at the intersection of Jefferson Street (two blocks east of Belvidere Street).
