Public input wanted in Reedy Creek Greenway planning

Go by Crossroads on a sunny spring weekend and you’ll know that biking and hiking are a big part of many folks routine. Getting from one point to another can be an real life game of Frogger. The Reedy Creek Greenway is attempting to link up disconnected paths/trails and add more to increase non-four wheeled activity in the area.

The Reedy Creek Greenway would follow the existing trail along Reedy Creek in Forest Hill Park, travel along the creek until it enters Crooked Branch Ravine Park, then traverse the Crooked Branch Ravine Park natural area until it exits at Crutchfield Road at George Wythe High School. In addition to providing access to the amenities at Forest Hill Park and little-known Crooked Branch Park, the Reedy Creek Greenway will provide access to the adjacent neighborhoods of Woodland Heights, Forest View, and Northrup , which include a mix of single-family homes and apartment complexes. The anticipated user group will include residents of the 4th, 5th, 7th and 8th Districts, city-wide recreational users, and George Wythe High School staff and students who are interested in walking, jogging, and cycling. In establishing a connection from these neighborhoods to the James River Park System’s network of trails, the Reedy Creek Greenway will provide an alternative off-road transportation route for residents to walk or ride to school and work. This greenway is the first link in a connection from Downtown Richmond to Pocahontas State Park, an IMBA Ride Center location and an important destination of the East Coast Greenway.
