Bryan- your stout comment is correct, I should have said they had to continue to ferment to make the journey. Oops, tastin beer. Dark hollow is released in dec for holiday consumption although other batches release earlier! Thanks for the heads up!

“Samichlaus” beer is brewed once a year, in each case on December 6th, and stored and matured afterwards for over 10 months before it is bottled. "Samichlaus” beer can mature for many years in the bottle; older vintages obtain a complexity and receive their creamy warm aftertaste. This beer can be served with heavy meals and desserts, particularly with chocolate - or as digestive and meditations drink. According to the Guinness Book of Records, it is the strongest lager beer in the world with 14 % alcohol and 32° original extract content. It is brewed exclusively of natural raw ingredients after the purity requirement of 1516. “Samichlaus” beer is filled in a 0.33 litre designer bottle embossed with Schloss Eggenberg and in barrels of 15 and 30 litres for export.

Anchor usually makes a good Holiday Brew every year, and it is always allegedly different, although the past fews years have been pretty similar.

Great article and list. I always enjoy seeing beer taken seriously and promoted well.

I'd say the list is missing Sierra Nevada's Celebration Ale. That's one of my favorite Christmas time beers.

That said, I think you have some factual issues.

1) Russian Imperial Stout - "But over the course of shipment, fermentation continued and the stout became much stronger in alcohol than the English counterpart."

Not quite correct as I understand it. The stout was intentionally made stronger in order to survive the trip to Russia, not as a side effect of the trip.

2) Blue Mountain Dark Hollow - "This beer is made every December"

I don't think this is right. They just released batch number 7 - at thanksgiving 2008 they were selling batch number 4. Batches 5 & 6 were made and released during the course of the year. That said, I agree that it is possibly the best beer being made in VA right now, and I'm glad you included it.

I would give an honorable mention to the Bells Christmas Ale. But that's a very good list.
