Learn about the Carillon Neighborhood at the Library tonight

The Carillon neighborhood has had much more going on than a bell tower.

Author’s Night is being hosted at the Westover Hills Public Library tonight Wednesday, April 23rd at 7 PM.

Dr. Elizabeth O’Leary, writer of The Carillon Neighborhood: A Historywill tell about the neighborhood’s land and people from the colonial frontier to antebellum farmland, from Gilded Age streetcar suburb to upscale Jazz Age development, from postwar housing boom to hub for civil rights activism. The talk will focus on the formation of the Carillon Civic Association and its efforts in the turbulent 1960s and 70s in nurturing one of Virginia’s first successfully integrated communities. An art historian who resides in Richmond, Dr.O’Leary is the former associate curator of American art at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. [via Westover Hills Neighborhood Association]
