Fresh Market opens, Pescados rebrands itself, and Rostov delivers

According to Richmond.com, Pescados China Street is rebranding to EAT Oregon Hill. Chef Todd Manley and partner Bob Windsor announced Tuesday that the restaurant would close this week, reopening with a new concept on Monday, September 10th. Before you panic about those incredible saffron cakes or the voodoo shrimp, their press release should calm your nerves:

“Fans can rest easy knowing their favorites will stay on the menu, but with new twists that offer something for everyone with regards to price, familiarity, and diversity of tastes. “

Manley says that being a niche seafood restaurant works very well for the Pescados in Midlothian, but the city has a different set of restaurants. They want to offer a larger array of items such as poutine and Korean fried chicken, just to name a few. Pricing will also be a little friendlier on the wallet, with small plates ranging from $4 - $10 and larger plates ranging from $10 - $15. Plenty of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options will be available so everyone can enjoy something off the new menu. EAT will have a happy hour Monday through Friday from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM offering:

$3 cocktails
$3 house wine
$1 PBRs
$2 off drafts along with food specials.

EAT Oregon Hill is located at 626 China Street.

Rumors have been spreading that Balliceaux is closed, but they’re just closed for renovations this week. The restaurant will open on Friday evening for dinner service, and DJ Big Chair will be spinning up danceable tracks later that night.

In grocery store news, Fresh Market will open at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, September 19th at the corner of Floyd and Nansemond. Samples will be available on opening day, so if you’re into that, you might want to head that way for some lunchtime snacks. According to the press release, the fourth grocery store to hit that area of town will offer the following to customers:

The new Richmond store will house over 23,300 square-feet of culinary delights, including a bakery that produces 30 freshly baked breads and 14 different pie varieties daily, a full service meat counter with freshly ground beef, a wide selection of ready-to-serve entrées, fresh seafood delivered to the store several times per week, and more than 200 imported and domestic cheeses, as well as a bountiful produce department with more than 400 items and a large organic selection.
