Food news: Sub Rosa plans a return, downtown Thai food, and Church Hill coffee

Urban Farmhouse opens their third location, Sub Rosa Bakery plans a return, beer pretty much everywhere you look, and more in this week’s food news.

After a fire gutted the interior of Church Hill-based Sub Rosa last April, the time has come for the bakery to reopen…like a phoenix from the ashes! Their current plans are to open at 9:00 AM on Saturday, January 18th. If that sounds like your scene, get there early; people are nuts about this place!

The owners of Mary Angela’s, Piccola’s, and probably your favorite neighborhood pizza/Italian place are set to open their newest spot: Pane e Vino. P e V takes up the bottom floor of the former Julian’s space—which was once almost a strip club kind of, then covered in odd grafitti, and finally empty for quite a while. Well, coming later this month it’ll be a new Italian place with some interesting concepts for you and 150 of your closest friends.

We need more Thai food downtown. Pala-art, owner of Mom’s Siam

Who’s going to argue with that? Richmond BizSense has the word that the owner of Mom’s Siam will bring a new Thai restaurant to downtown, located at 2811 W. Cary Street. You can expect the same menu as the Carytown location, which, sounds friggin’ great if you ask me!

Urban Farmhouse opened their new Church Hill location (310 North 33rd Street) yesterday! Stop in, get out of the cold, warm up, and get some dang coffee.

Crossroads’s Willy Beans has dropped another one of his Tapside videos, and it brought out the LOLs in me. This week’s featured beer is a special edition of Hardywood’s Sidamo Coffee Stout, which combines the brewery’s Russian Imperial Stout with Rostov’s Copenhagen blend.

Also on the beer tip is the news that Triple Crossing Brewery has signed with RVA-beer titans Brown Distributing. That brings the number of truly local beers distributed by Brown to six or seven million. Triple Crossing plans to open later this spring, so if you’re hankering for a new RVA brew you’ll need to exercise patience—which I know can be hard for you.
