Bid adieu to the Diggity Dudes

Sad news, guys! Richmond’s favorite purveyors of hip music for hip kids are calling it quits. See their farewell performance on this Sunday.

For the last six years, the Diggity Dudes have traveled near and far to bring “hip music for hip kids and their equally hip parents.”

It all began in 2009 when Mike Hartsfield and Donny Atkins, after years of playing music for those of driving age, began writing catchy tunes for their kids. They released their first album, My Science Project, the following year and made quite a name for themselves on the kids music scene. By 2011 they’d added three more dudes to the line-up, become a beloved fixture on Richmond’s festival circuit, and helped create Virginia’s very first all-kids music festival: DiggityFEST.

But according to a statement on the band’s website, it’s time for the Dudes to shift their focus from our hip kids to their own…

What fun we’ve had over the past 6 years entertaining kids all over the country. Sadly though, it is time to say goodbye. Summer 2015 marks the end to a wonderful chapter in our lives, and we are looking forward to stepping back from entertaining your kids, and spending time with our own kids and families.

This year’s DiggyFEST will serve as the Diggity Dudes’ farewell performance. So come on out and say goodbye to Diggity Dudes this Sunday, September 27th from 1:00 to 5:00 PM at Westchester Commons. Susan Greenbaum will also provide musical entertainment, and Silly Bus, local vendors, and food trucks will be on-hand to keep you and yours busy and fed. Admission is free, but proceeds raised will benefit Connor’s Heroes in their efforts to provide support for children (and their families) in Central Virginia who are undergoing cancer treatment.
