Bev’s gets burgled, the Food Cart Court gets a backer, and Peter Chang heads to Hollywood

According to Richmond.com, the much loved Food Cart Court is coming back to the VHS beginning this Friday, April 27th. It will continue to serve hungry Richmonders Tuesday and Friday nights from 6-9pm. The organization GrowRVA has now gotten behind the event. You might know them better as The Market Umbrella, the folks that put on the South of the James Market. They recently changed their name and will be coordinating the food trucks and making sure things runs smoothly. Just a reminder: the Virginia Historical Society is located at 428 North Boulevard and will stay open until 8pm on Tuesday and Friday evenings so you can not only grab great food but check out great history all in one night!

Now we turn to...break-in news? Bev’s Ice Cream has been robbed! According to West of the Boulevard News, the beloved ice cream shop in Carytown was burglarized sometime between 10:30pm on Monday night and 7am Tuesday morning. Everyone, go buy tons of ice cream and help Bev’s out!

West of the Boulevard News is also reporting that the former Jak’s Bagel Shop is for sale in Carytown. The space is located at 3443 West Cary Street and includes handicap bathrooms, off street parking, and is (of course) set up to be a great restaurant space.

Peter Chang. If you haven’t had the pleasure of dining at his restaurant, you’ve at least heard people talk about him. The chef is known for his unparalleled Szechuan cooking and, according to Richmond Magazine, may soon be a movie star? Gen Lee, Chang’s business partner, says they have signed a contract with Fox Searchlight Pictures for a feature film documenting his life. A source from Fox Searchlight confirmed the project. Stanley Tucci is said to play a significant role, who is a big fan of Chang’s and is known for food focused films such as Big Night and Julie and Julia. Hopefully more details will emerge soon. In the meantime, try the dry-fried eggplant at Peter Chang’s China Cafe located at 11424 West Broad Street in Short Pump.

Happy Hour Alert! Mint New Casual Cuisine is now offering happy hour at the bar from 4-7pm Monday through Friday. Specials include $3 rail drinks and $2.50 drafts. Fried green tomato and pimento cheese sandwich comes highly recommended and I’m sure pairs well with a happy hour beverage or two. Here’s our profile of the restaurant to whet your appetite.
