Bare shelves at FeedMore inspire donations

Yesterday afternoon, FeedMore posted a picture of a barren food shelf. Within hours, Richmond rallied in support, with one restaurant offering free food in exchange for donations.

Yesterday afternoon, FeedMore posted a photo on its Facebook page of a nearly empty food shelf. The caption read: “Our shelves are bare…and we need your help!” The post launched a flurry of support meant to inspire donations for the food collective.

FeedMore, an organization that’s comprised of the Central Virginia Food Bank, Meals on Wheels, and the Community Kitchen, is in most need of these items:

  • Beans
  • Canned fruits
  • Canned meats
  • Canned tuna and salmon
  • Canned vegetables
  • Hot and cold cereals
  • Pasta and rice
  • Spaghetti sauce
  • Tuna

To encourage donations yesterday, local restaurant Pasture offered free snacks to those who donated a can of food to FeedMore. Those wishing to donate financially to FeedMore can also do so here.

FeedMore’s request comes during the 3rd annual “Drive Away Hunger” initiative. Lasting through October, the campaign is organized by the Greater Richmond New Car Dealers Association. Last year’s campaign raised the equivalent of over 208,000 meals for hungry Central Virginians.
