1. Fresh Dressed — Starry Night Cinema Lawn Chair Series

There’s an interesting history behind open air cinema in Richmond, as Maat Free told us all on Monday. And this Friday, we have a lot of reasons to continue it. One: the film, Fresh Dressed, looks really good. Two: the setting–outdoors at Tredegar–is gorgeous. Three: Film festivals are cool, and the Afrikana one is one of my favorite ones to keep an eye on.

2. CAPITAL ALE HOUSE NATIONAL BEER EXPO

How proud are you that an RVA mainstay is behind one the country’s coolest beer festivals? Your answer is probably a resounding, “Right ho!” This event draws a ton of beer enthusiasts from around this great nation, people who like to sample a plethora of said great nation’s craft beers in one go.

• Thursday, July 16th – Saturday, July 18th • see site for schedule
• Various venues, with the majority of the events being held at the Convention Center see that site again
• $42 general admission, $54 VIP/early admission

3. Summer Moon Music Festival

Center of the Universe hosts an enormous, two-day battle of the bands, where the winning group gets to donate money to their fave charity! I love fave charities! Also: oysters, and lots of them. View the site for the full list of 13 bands. It’s safe to assume there will be plenty of beer, plus the addition of James River Cellars’ wine lineup.

4. THE RICHMOND WEDDING EXPO

Say, are you planning on getting married, like, ever? Well, sister, you better get yourself to the Richmond Wedding Expo, where you’ll find everything a filly could need to get hitched to a fella. View all the purdiest gowns, meet all the sophisticated cityfolk wedding planners, and figure out how to have yourself the best little hoedown for you and yourn. Also, check out our wedding guide from a couple of months yonder. (Sorry, I’ve been reading too much Faulkner lately, which means that, also, your wedding day will end tragically and in a super effed-up way.)

5. Premier League: Richmond Kickers vs. West Bromwich Albion

The British are coming. The British are coming…to play a bit of soccer. The only cure for post-World Cup depression is more soccer, and the Kickers are happy to oblige as they take on the Baggies. Yes, “Baggies” is their nickname which is a considerable improvement from their original name, the “West Bromwich Strollers.” It’ll be the highest attended game of the year, so the atmosphere will go to 11. In addition to the action on the field there will be food trucks, craft beer, and activities for the kids. Get yourself to the stadium and defend Richmond once more from the English invaders. Also, you can get a custom growler with your ticket!

Bonus Thing: 2ND ANNUAL BROOKLAND PARK BOULEVARD HISTORY FESTIVAL

Discover the rich history of the Brookland Park Boulevard on Richmond’s Northside. Last year, the event was organized to celebrate the street’s 100th birthday, and the magnificent turnout basically demanded a repeat event this year. Expect food, neighbors, music, and lots of other stuff.
