5 Things: America, America, America, America, USA

This weekend is a fruited plain of many things to do, and we sure hope you will shed your grace upon it.

1. Jesse Ventura’s Star-Spangled Conspiracy

Something about this piqued my interest. No wait, it’s more accurate to say that nothing about this didn’t pique my interest–two Jesse Venturas interview each other on conspiracy theories. Like they say, there’s not a whole lot more American than that.

  • Friday, July 3rd • 10:00 PM
  • Coalition Theater, 8 W. Broad Street
  • $5

2. Goldrush with extremely special guest Classical Revolution RVA

Goldrush and Classical Revolution have two things in common:

  1. They both feature some strings action
  2. They’re both playing this Friday night at VMFA First Fridays

Prabir Mehta doesn’t do things halfway, and a halfway thing might be to just make a regular flyer. Nope, this flyer is a video, dammit.

3. See Fireworks

The above link will take you to a bevy of firework options, including recommended viewing sites and everything else you could possibly want to know. Because this is a fun tradition and you should not roll your eyes at it. America wasn’t built on an eye roll! America was built on beautiful explosions!

4. Celebrate America in other ways

And THIS link will take you to a roundup of various other fun things to do to celebrate if, say, you don’t like fireworks, or if, say, you are aware that fireworks take up approximately 10 minutes of your day and you’re interested in making plans to fill up the other 1,430 minutes.

5. Watch the Women’s World Cup Final

This is it. The U.S. Women’s National Team, led (I’m going to go ahead and say it) by Carli Lloyd, is playing Japan in a revenge-match that will give us a chance to reclaim the cup! If you’re an RVANews reader, you’ve probably caught on that we are WAY INTO this tournament, and it’s entirely thanks to Richard Hayes’s engaging previews. And his patience in explaining to us everything we want to know. So this is my official thanks to Richard, who has made me feel like an expert and given me much insight into the fascinating and fast-paced world of women’s soccer. USA! USA! USA!

  • Sunday, July 5th • 7:00 PM
  • FOX (our match preview tomorrow will have more info on viewing parties and such)
  • Free!
