5 Things

It’s nice out, the bacon is sizzling, the steel guitars are twanging, the vocal chords are humming, the beer is flowing, and…Dave Coulier. We’ve got it all (?) prepped for you this week.

1. Cabaret

Before life was like a box of chocolates, life was a cabaret. And that, old chum, sounds a lot more fun to me. Come experience this fabulous musical (which was an Oscar-winning movie, don’t you know) about a 1930s-era Berlin nightclub. Liza Minelli will probably not be in attendance, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t.

  • Thursday, June 4th – Saturday, July 5th • see site for times
  • Richmond Triangle Players, 1300 Altamont Avenue
  • $35

2. Friday Cheers: Futurebirds and Spirit Family Reunion

Ross’s write-up about this week’s Friday Cheers has piqued an interest in me. And it just might pique the heck out of you, too! Futurebirds and Spirit Family Reunion seem like good old-fashioned indie rock of the most Americana variety, which honestly is pretty much what we want a good Friday Cheers to be.

  • Friday, June 6th • 6:00 PM
  • Brown’s Island
  • $10 for adults, free for children 12 and under

3. Carytown RVA Craft Beer Festival

So much pressure when a festival gets to its second year! Will it top last year? Will it disappoint? WILL THERE BE BEER? Yes, hopefully not, and duh. The Carytown RVA Craft Beer Festival is, confusingly, not in Carytown, but it is NEARISH Carytown at the Diamond. More than 40 beers will be featured as well as foodstuffs from various foodstuff providers. Get tickets ahead of time, this kind of thing is likely to sell out.

  • Saturday, June 7th • 12:00 – 6:00 PM
  • The Diamond, 3001 N. Boulevard
  • $25

4. Dave Coulier

You know when you get into a little scrape at school and it feels like the world is ending, and only your dad’s friend who happens to live with you and your sisters and your uncle and wears unflattering sweaters does his Popeye voice and everything feels like it’s going to work out A-OK? Oh yes, you know EXACTLY what I’m talking about. Joey is here in Richmond for a bunch of shows this weekend, and although I’m convinced “Cut. It. Out!” is the stupidest catchphrase ever, I love saying it, and I don’t know why. Do any of us?

  • Friday, June 6th – Sunday, June 8th &bull see site for times (there are lots of them)
  • Funny Bone, 11800 W. Broad Street, #1090
  • $20

5. Bacon Festival

Who doesn’t love bacon? I mean besides the trillions of vegetarians out there, but we’ve got our own festival too, guys. For the rest of the world, there’s bacon a-plenty everywhere you turn these days. So why not a festival! This second annual (so much pressure!) Bacon Fest promises to make your certain death-by-artery-plaque smell so, so appetizing.

  • Sunday, June 8th • 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • 17th Street Farmers Market, 17th and Main Streets
  • Free to attend, $4 a plate!
