‘Tis the season of the festival, which is probably the best season there is. Eat, listen to music, and…um…eat some more, surrounded by thousands of other Richmonders, all eating and all listening.

1. 38th Annual Richmond Greek Festival

Baklava time! Grab your wallet, fast for 24 hours, and hit up the city’s biggest celebration of Greek cuisine. If you’re new to town, know this: you must go, if only to avoid horrifying everyone else you know. They will gasp and clutch you and whisper fervent entreaties and hopefully offer to buy you a bottle of wine. Then, as you kick back under a tent while youngsters dance around in a circle, think fondly of me and have another helping of spanakopita.

2. Flying Squirrels vs. Erie: A Sleepover of Clydesdales with Mustaches

Nutzy time! This Friday, our beloved Squirrels host the despicable Erie SeaWolves for a heated match between two unlikely mascots! OK, yeah, yeah, Squirrels and SeaWolves. The real draw here is the amazing combination of three promotional nights: 98.9 Liberty’s MUSTACHE NIGHT! And also Budweiser’s CLYDESDALE NIGHT! And also Girl Scouts of America SLEEPOVER NIGHT! What mastermind of irony arranged this delightful mashup? It’s almost like they want us to…I don’t know…have funn or, like, go nuts.

3. Forest Hill Neighborhood Yard Sale

Shopping time! You are literally bound (by law) to find something you like at this weekend’s enormous Forest Hill yard sale. How could you not? It’s a trillion people with roomy homes making space for other things, and I’m sure they take great care of their possessions, and I’m sure they price things reasonably. I mean, I might be making some assumptions here, but they probably have something that will change your life. (And not just doughnuts and coffee, although they will be there, too).

4. Stone Soul Music and Food Festival

Soul time! Among other greats (BBD!) at this year’s wildly popular R&B festival are SWV! Yes, SWV!!! Those sistas are back (if they ever left; who can keep track of these things), and they are ready to wow us with those voices they have. The lineup looks good, the food is always tantalizing, and there’s not a whole lot stopping you from going.

• Saturday, June 1st • 12:00 – 8:30 PM
• Richmond International Raceway Complex, 600 E. Laburnum Avenue
• $35 for adults, kids five and under get in free, and free parking for all!

5. Broad Appetit

Gluttony time! I have missed this every single year, and I do not intend to this time. I’ve got my wads of $3-bills, ready to sample plates from Richmond’s finest chefs. I will watch those chefs face off in showdowns. I will listen to many live bands. I will clap as the awards get handed out. At Richmond’s favorite food festival (based on no data), I will truly shine. Let’s hear it for me!
