1. Richmond Flying Squirrels Opening Night Celebration

This Thursday, your favorite minor league ball club is back with their first home game of the season against the Altoona Curve. While the two battle it out for best team name, you’ll crunch Cracker Jack in gleeful anticipation of the fireworks to come. Plus Nutzy will be there! And special guest Dale Murphy! I don’t know who that is!

4. RVA Street Art Festival

It’s like Richmond has finally decided to keep from constantly being referred to by the national media as the “Former Capital of the Confederacy” by establishing itself as the “Current Capital of All the Murals in the Universe.” This weekend’s first RVA Street Art Festival revolves around the Flood Wall and the James River Power Plant Building and features a ton of local and non-local artists. Check out the festival this Saturday and enjoy food, drink, and the Bizarre Market. Whoa!

5. Civil War & Emancipation Day

Oh, um, yeah back to that Former Capital of the Confederacy thing. Well, if we’re going to be that too, we need to be THE BEST FORMER CAPITAL OF THE CONFEDERACY EVER. Enter “Civil War & Emancipation Day!” The American Civil War Center at Historic Tredegar rolls out the red carpet for you, American citizens, as you learn about that turbulent time and maybe hear some historically accurate songs, take some boat rides, and play some children’s games while you’re at it. We’re going to learn from our mistakes and we’re going to have fun doing it, dammit. And that’s how we do Former Capital of the Confederacy. Boom!
