Ah, yes. Halloween. The time of year when we humiliate our children for our amusement, and we have social permission to dress as a sexy <insert noun>. Oh! And don’t forget the PRANKS!!

There’s a lot going down this weekend, so let’s mosh through this monster mash.

1. Richmond Zombie Walk

For seven years the Richmond Zombie Walk has been grotesquely shambling about within the confines of the sometimes prissy and proper Carytown. Thankfully, this year will be no different! The annual zombie walk gets bigger each year, and this year could bring with it 800 reanimated corpses sauntering on the sidewalks of Cary Street. Not only is this event wholesomely ghoulish fun, it also raises money for the American Cancer Society.

2. The RCC Must Die

Andrew Dice Clay may have killed comedy back in 1990. But now it’s time to kill off the Richmond Comedy Coalition. Watch as some of Richmond’s funniest people improvise an on-stage horror movie. Audience members are encouraged to dress up. The winner of the their costume contest will guest star in the improvised movie. C’mon. Let’s get NUTS!

3. Richmond’s Eerie Canal Boat Rides

You may think that there’s nothing scarier than being on a boat with T-Pain. But you would be wrong. To make things REALLY scary, you need to be on a boat in one of Richmond’s canals. Don’t think that this sounds scary? Well, how about if I tell you that while you travel down the Kanawha Canal a narrator will regale you with tales of Richmond’s haunted and spooky past? But if _even that_ doesn’t whet your appetite, how about this: free f-ing candy for the kids. Rides will depart every half hour.

4. Richmond International Wine Excursion

It seems that there are two components for adults celebrating Halloween: dressing up and getting tipsy. If the former doesn’t appeal to you but the latter certainly does, then perhaps you need to embark on an excursion into international wine. But do you think that there is only wine to taste? Oh, no, no, no. There will be tastings, yes, but there will also be luncheons and seminars. This event is becoming a big deal. Don’t sleep on it.

5. Artist Talk: Tristin Lowe

Mocha Dick! No, it’s not some bizarre new Starbucks latte, it’s the big-assed whale sitting in the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts! The artist who created the very cool piece (which I have seen and I thought was very cool so I am not lying by saying it’s cool if THAT’S WHAT YOU WERE THINKING) will be giving a talk at the VMFA later tonight. Come listen to why and how he put this whale of a…whale together.
