“Music is enough for a lifetime, but a lifetime is not enough for music.”

– Sergei Rachmaninov

Liner Notes:
What a bummer that Ron Ashton died this week. I’m just happy he got to play with the Stooges again before he checked out. To see the Stooges in all their primitive original glory, check out this great video from 1970.

Like most of the bands heard on this and all (as of this writing) 37 editions of the Bopst Show available here, the Stooges rarely are heard on the radio. The main reason I started doing radio was to correct that grave injustice. Many times when I was doing my show, radio professionals would comment that I really loved music continually mystified by my exuberance for music most of which had never heard. And that to me is what is wrong with corporate radio today. It seems that nobody behind the mic or in programming has any interest in music. Simply put, they really don’t give a shit.

And that’s what set me apart in my mind. I give a shit. I love music to the core of my being. While I would be lying if I said doing my show didn’t help to appease, inflate and bolster my raging ego, but my main motivation, my main thrill is turning people on to music. As much as I like doing these podcasts, I miss the immediacy of doing live radio. Live, you roll with the punches. Doing these podcasts, I tend to obsess on details filling shows with sound effects, absurd juxtapositions and time consuming edits. While there is a fair amount of funny business on this show, it is as close to what I did on the radio as anything I’ve ever done for this site.

As always, thanks for listening and I hope you enjoy the show. Oh, and don’t be afraid to make a request every once and a while. It gets lonely without you.

The set list for this week’s show is posted here. All previous show set lists are on my blog.

Until Next Time:

CMB, I am sending this here, so others will check this out. Did you or anyone hear This American Life last weekend (1/3)? If not, go check it out. They interviewed these folks and polled them for thier favorite kind of music, instruments, vocal styles and so on, as well as thier least favorite. Then they recorded compositions making up all the most favored, and least favored. It is hilarious, because the most favored musical elements put into a piece really sucks (my opinion only). Yet the least favorite is quite palatable. It includes an opera singer rapping cowboy lyrics, with bagpipes and tubas in the background. Sad really, but worth a listen. Cheers.

Great show (although that “9 Steps” song made my dog wake up, stare at the computer, and start shaking her head like her ears hurt.) Nothing personal, she’s a dog with notoriously strange taste in music. Her favorite is the theme from the Antiques Roadshow. I think it’s the foxhorns. But I digress…

Anyway, just thought you’d like to know that the Podcast cuts off after that song, half-way through you giving your phone number, and before the last two songs on the playlist. I feel strangely frustrated.

The podcast is ending right after Lobster Dust, just as you are saying the request line phone number.

According to Winamp it is at the 49:06 minute mark.

Correction. The podcast ends right after The Decapitated, when you are starting with the phone number.
