I, as any sane person can surely relate, have been experiencing a lot of Sarah Palin induced rage over the past couple of weeks. If you have to ask why I feel this way, I cannot help to think that something is seriously wrong with you.

Case in point.

“A very wise TV executive once told me that the key to TV is projecting through the screen. It’s one of the keys to the success of, say, a Bill O’Reilly, who comes through the screen and grabs you by the throat. Palin too projects through the screen like crazy. I’m sure I’m not the only male in America who, when Palin dropped her first wink, sat up a little straighter on the couch and said, “Hey, I think she just winked at me.” And her smile. By the end, when she clearly knew she was doing well, it was so sparkling it was almost mesmerizing. It sent little starbursts through the screen and ricocheting around the living rooms of America. This is a quality that can’t be learned; it’s either something you have or you don’t, and man, she’s got it.”

(From Rich Lowry’s column, “Projecting Through The Screen” posted Friday 10/03/08 on Nation Review Online)

I love Public Enemy. About every 6 months or so I go on a Public Enemy binge. I find that it relieves stress.

And I can not think of a better American musician than Tom Waits. He is the rare artist that gets better the older he gets. He does exactly what he wants. No compromise. I bet most nights he sleeps like a baby.

Les McCann & Eddie Harris make the act of being righteously pissed a religious experience.

Negativland are so good it’s not even funny.

The Eat are but one of the millions of bands that you would probably never hear unless you knew somebody who knew somebody that collected obscure singles in the late 70’s and early 80’s. I am one of those people.

The Mighty Diamonds soulful three part harmonies give confirmation of impending romantic annihilation its proper sense of dread without resorting to pity. Musically or otherwise, that is a hard trick to pull off.

When I was a kid, I lived next door to a family of New York Jews. They turned me on to the joys of bagels and lox, bat mitzvahs, and Mel Brooks. Thank god for those Jews.

The Lefties Soul Connection are a new group playing it old out of Amsterdam. They play (mostly) instrumental Hammond driven funk in the vein of the Jimmy Smith, Jimmy McGriff and John Patton. Reminds me of the Beastie Boys when they don’t use their mouths.

That empty Scientology building in Carytown gives me the creeps. The Fabulous Entourage will explain why.

If you want to see the best live rock band in the world (and I know you do), put this date on your calendar. Wednesday October 15th. On that date, Israeli group the Monotonix will be in our fare, humble abode playing with homegrown talents Snack Truck, Hot Lava, and the Amoeba Men at Gallery Five. Trust me on this. They put on a show you won’t soon forget.

Concluding this week’s program is the mighty Charles Mingus. The song you’ll hear was written as a direct protest against Arkansas governor Orval E. Faubus, who in 1957 sent out the National Guard to prevent the integration of Little Rock Central High School by nine African American teenagers.

The set list for this week’s show is posted on my MySpace page.

I put up a transcription of that Couric/Palin bit at work and we take turns reading it aloud. Nobody can get through it without stopping and saying, “‘what the fuck?’. Her response makes no sense. No wonder they won’t let her around reporters asking their gotcha follow up questions…

    Love that interview clip.
Just take words that sound like they should mean something and run them together.
If you do it long enough and with enough conviction you may confuse the intrerviewer into thinking that you answered the question.
Or, in this case you convince anyone who listened that you are dumber than mold.
She’s gotta be flipping through here list of canned responses looking for one that fits, and she just can’t seem to find one.
