The Boathouse dropping anchor in Short Pump with third location

The third Boathouse location, and fourth restaurant for owner Kevin Healy, will open next spring.

The Boathouse, known for its waterfront dining at Rocketts Landing downtown and on the Swift Creek Reservoir in southside, is setting sail for the West End.

This time, however, the restaurant won’t be located on the water, but rather at Short Pump Town Center.

“People have asked us to come to the West End for years,” said owner Kevin Healy. “When the opportunity arose, we knew had to jump on it.”

The Short Pump location will serve up the same classic coastal elements that inspired the Boathouse’s original locations.

The new 5,800-square-foot restaurant will be located under the Hyatt House Hotel on Short Pump Town Center’s restaurant row and include a large outdoor patio.

Construction is set to begin this fall, with a target opening date of sometime next spring.

The West End location is the latest in a series of expansions Healy has made over the Richmond area over the past few decades. His original restaurant, The Boathouse at Sunday Park, celebrated its 25th anniversary last year. The Boathouse’s second location at Rocketts Landing opened in 2009.

Most recently, sister restaurant Casa Del Barco (Spanish for The Boathouse) opened along the Canal Walk in January of 2013.

“We’re looking forward to getting to know our new neighbors in the West End,” Healy said. “It’s such a vibrant community and we hope to see it attract more local businesses in the years to come.”
