Update #1 — September 1, 2015; 8:29 AM

This information is an update to the media advisory issued on Friday, Aug. 28, regarding pedestrian bridge construction at two locations on VCU’s Monroe Park Campus.

T&B Equipment has notified VCU Police that the times for road closures on West Franklin Street and West Main Street will be extended due to construction. The closure and detours scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 1, on West Main Street will start at 9 a.m. and will be in effect until 5 p.m. on Wednesday; the roadway will be closed overnight. The closure and detours scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 3, on West Franklin Street will start at 9 a.m. and will be in effect until 5 p.m. on Friday; that roadway will also be closed overnight.

On Tuesday, Sept. 1, westbound traffic on West Main Street will be detoured onto Laurel Street, near Monroe Park. This detour was originally planned for North Cherry Street but has been moved so motorists can travel north or south on Laurel Street to minimize congestion in the area.

The Virginia Commonwealth University Police Department will reroute traffic near two intersections on VCU’s Monroe Park Campus between Tuesday, Sept. 1, and Friday, Sept. 4. Two pedestrian bridges are being constructed to accommodate pedestrian traffic during the UCI Road World Championships in the city (Sept. 19 – 27). After construction is complete, Shafer Street will be closed for northbound turns from West Franklin Street.

There will be no parking on West Franklin Street between North Harrison Street and North Laurel Street. Eastbound traffic on West Franklin Street will be detoured north onto North Harrison, eastbound on West Grace Street, southbound on North Laurel Street and eastbound back onto West Franklin Street.
