No BS! Brass Band memeber will play with Bon Iver on Colbert and Jimmy Fallon

“I’ve never done anything like this before.” The ‘this’ to which trombonist Reggie Pace refers is his upcoming gigs with his new band, Bon Iver. Pace will be playing The Colbert Report on Monday, June 20 and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday, June 21. “I’m super excited.”

Pace is known in Richmond for being a founding member of the NO BS! Brass Band, a group that has made itself a local staple through their original compositions and covers of modern classics.

Pace met Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, a play on the the French phrase bon hiver meaning good winter, this past fall while playing a festival at Duke University to One month later, Pace received a phone call while driving to Richmond Music Center, where he works. It was Vernon.

“‘I want you to be a part of this,’” said the Bon Iver frontman, recalls Pace. “It was crazy,” he adds. “It was an awesome phone call.”

Pace has been rehearsing with Bon Iver for the last ten days. The band’s upcoming nationally televised performances will support the June 21 release of a new self-titled album. A full tour begins will run from July 22 through August 10.

Bon Iver will play Richmond on July 30 at the National.
