City hosting free performances of 42nd Street at Dogwood Dell

Free shows begin Friday evening and run through August 2nd at Dogwood Dell in Byrd Park.

The City of Richmond has announced 42nd Street the musical will take to the stage at Dogwood Dell this Friday as part of the 58th annual Festival of Arts.

The musical opens on Friday, July 25 at 8:30 PM. Additional shows will run on Saturday, July 26th and Sunday, July 27th, as well as on Saturday, August 1st and Sunday, August 2nd.

All shows begin at 8:30 PM. and will be held at the Dogwood Dell amphitheater at 1300 Blanton Avenue in Byrd Park.

42nd Street is a Tony Award winning musical about making it big on Broadway. Set in 1933, the main character Peggy Sawyer arrives in New York City with hopes of being casted in Pretty Lady.

Although Peggy does not land the role that she wants, she is able to get a part in the chorus. Through a series of unfortunate events, Peggy is fired, but with the rest of the cast rallying behind her, the producer convinces her to come back, and to a better role.
