Watch a steamroller make art

Steamroller is not the first thing that comes to mind when you think printmaking.

Pressssssssure! A Steamroller Printing Event today at 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM will allow you the opportunity to watch a steamroller make prints. Not as cool as the old David Letterman bit but still pretty darn awesome.

From the Facebook Event:

Over the past three months, a class of 12 students from the VCU Department of Graphic Design has organized a steamroller printmaking event to create large scale prints.

We have been working on planning the event, designing the prints and hand-carving 6 linoleum blocks in order to create a limited series of 32”x44” prints.

We are renting a 1+ton steamroller (also known as an asphalt roller), a machine usually used for leveling asphalt roads. This steamroller will be driven over the hand-carved blocks of linoleum to transfer ink onto paper and create these large posters. We will have music, food trucks, live printing action, and prints for sale!

This is what won’t be happening.
