VMFA to display iconic Hollywood costumes
Costumes from classic films like The Wizard of Oz to modern flicks like Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince will be featured in an exhibit with only select US museums…one of which is the VMFA.
Relics from some of Hollywood’s most famous films will be on display at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts next year when the exhibit Hollywood Costume opens next November.
The exhibit, organized by the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, features over 100 iconic movie costumes encompassing over a century of films, including: The Wizard of Oz, The Birds, My Fair Lady, Superman, Titanic, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince and The Dark Knight Rises. Not only will the exhibit showcase famous costumes, but it will also discuss the role of costume design in cinema.
“I am pleased to announce this exhibition of costumes from beloved film classics will make its United States premiere at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts,” Alex Nyerges, the museum’s director, said in a statement.
Not only will the VMFA exhibit serve as the US premiere for Hollywood Costume, but the local museum is the only East Coast venue scheduled during the exhibit’s tour.
Hollywood Costume will run from November 2nd, 2013 – February 17th, 2014. Tickets will go on sale on February 24th, 2013, and are $20 ($16 for seniors, students, adult groups of 10+, and for children aged 7-17).
