University of Richmond hosting ChinaFest February 11th – 14th

Enjoy lectures, a film festival, and more at the 11th annual event.

ChinaFest, an annual festival held at the University of Richmond to promote better understanding and goodwill between the United States and China, will be held February 11th through the 14th. The festival includes a wide variety of discussions and arts-related events, all of which are free and open to the public.

The festival begins at 7:00 PM on the 11th with “Xi Jinping’s China: Goals, Challenges, and Prospects,” a lecture by Kenneth Lieberthal, a renowned China scholar. Lieberthal will share his unique insight from a career encompassing academia, government and Washington think tanks.

The festival also includes ChinaFest Film Weekend, which is part of the University’s International Film Series. The community is invited to the screenings of five acclaimed and significant films:

  • The Monkey King: Uproar in Heaven – February 12th at 3:00 PM
  • No. 89 Shimen Road – February 12th at 7:30 PM
  • The Personals – February 13th at 10:30 AM
  • Torch Troupes – February 13th at 1:00 PM
  • Enter the Dragon – February 14th at 7:30 PM

All films will be shown in original languages with English subtitles in the Robins School of Business, Queally Hall, Ukrop Auditorium. UR faculty members will provide commentary and lead Q & A sessions following The Monkey King: Uproar in Heaven and Enter the Dragon.

The last day of the festival features a discussion of the collection “Eleven Treasures from the Chinese Ceramics Collection” at 1:30 PM in the Lora Robins Gallery of Design from Nature. A tea reception will follow.

ChinaFest, which is now in its 11th year, is co-sponsored by the University of Richmond Office of International Education and the non-profit organization The Rose Group for Cross-Cultural Understanding.
