This week’s theater openings

Sister Act and The Whipping Man open this week.

Sister Act

Coming direct from Broadway, SISTER ACT is the feel-amazing musical comedy smash that the New York Post calls “RIDICULOUSLY FUN,” and audiences are jumping to their feet in total agreement! Featuring original music by Tony® and 8-time Oscar® winner ALAN MENKEN (Newsies, Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors), SISTER ACT tells the hilarious story of Deloris Van Cartier, a wannabe diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a crime and the cops hide her in the last place anyone would think to look–a convent!

The Whipping Man

It is Passover, 1865 in the ruins of a once grand home in Richmond, Virginia. The Civil War has just ended, and a Confederate officer comes home to find his family missing and only two former slaves remaining. Waiting for the family’s return, the three men find themselves digging up family secrets and discovering that war and slavery can damage even the best of men. Powerful, bold, and compelling, this play will take you on a fascinating journey through history.

Suggested for ages 14 and up.
