RTD Profiles Garnett’s Cafe

Add this to the glowing reviews of Garnett’s Cafe at Meadow and Park. We wrote about it here when it first opened, but the good press keeps coming. . . If your grandmother was hip, she’d hang out at Garnett’s Formica-topped bar, indulging in simple luncheonette pleasures. . . Garnett’s is a retro version of a sandwich [...]

First Friday rescheduled to Jan.8

… so don’t go tomorrow night unless it’s for dinner and stroll. There is other good news from the Curated Culture  blog: Christina is moving back downtown – “we’ll have an office space at 323 West Broad Street at the Artisan Alley building.  Artisan Alley is an old warehouse/storefront on Broad Street that’s built out for [...]

2009: October – December

Even though we're still technically in Q4, I'm having a hard time remembering anything that happened. Probably because there was just. so. much. The busyness, let me show you it.

Cous Cous discontinues Wednesday night live music

Ombak’s long-standing Wednesday night gig at the popular Mediterranean and Moroccan restaurant Cous Cous is being discontinued by restaurant management, confirmed earlier this week by band leader Bryan Hooten. Hooten said management offered to host a farewell show but Ombak will not do it due to a schedule conflict.

The venue’s ridding of live music on Wednesday nights was halfway accomplished in October when Fight the Big Bull moved from Cous Cous to the new restaurant Balliceaux. In that case, Cous Cous asked that Fight the Big Bull play only monthly and, wishing to still play every two weeks, the band changed venues. Unlike Fight the Big Bull’s, Ombak’s discontinuation reportedly happened without negotiation between band and venue.

Hooten says about the band’s residency, “We understand it’s a business decision. It was great to play there as long as we did.” Cous Cous management did not respond to messages to comment.

5 things

It's almost 2010. I'm still holding out hope that my flying car will be waiting in my yard when I wake up tomorrow morning. Until then, here are a few suggestions for what to do this weekend as we bid goodbye to 2009 and ring in the New Year.
