and everybody upstream is environmentally conscious (anybody remember the kepone poisoning from Hopewell in 1975? If not, go here: http://openweb.tvnews.vanderbilt.edu/1975-12/1975-12-16-NBC-11.html). It depends on where you go. Just be sure to avoid the still water. I’ve gotten out of that river many times and had a layer of grime that made me queasy.

YES THE RIVER! I went a two weeks ago and it is officially warm enough to get in, although maybe a bit too cold to really swim in.
