5 things to do this weekend!!!
August 8, 2008
1. Art 180 Festival for Johnny Z (from the folks at Books on Wheels)
ART 180 will be holding their Festival for Jonny Z, a street event celebrating not only the life and achievements of our dear, late friend Jonny Zanin, but also the art and change that his amazing life is still inspiring within our community. This event will take place outside of Joe’s Inn. As you might know, an ART 180 class has already painted a mural on the side of the building. Saturday, 11am-4pm, Joe’s Inn @ 205 N. Shields
2. Carib Festival
Includes the usual jerk chicken, sugar cane alcohol, reggae etc and the UNUSUAL…a headlining appearance by The Mighty Sparrow, a leading force in the development of calypso and most celebrated calypsonian ever. Sure-fire draft day winner. Saturday, 12pm-10pm, Browns Island
3. 2008 Filipino Festival
The dark horse of Festival Saturday. I will enjoy pancit, Adobo, barbecued pork on a stick, barbecued beef, lechon, maja blanca, leche flan, halo-halo a cantaloupe drink and then a San Miguel beer. Saturday, 10am-8pm, Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 8200 Woodman Road
4. Watermelon Festival
Don’t sleep on the Watermelon Festival. It’s got bands and food and Carytown stuff. Sunday, 10am-6pm, Carytown
5. Bollywood Dance Night
Seriously, this is a wild night. It needs no explanation. Saturday, 10:30pm, Cous Cous

Am I the only one who watches “so you think you can dance”? The bollywood dance was Nigel’s favorite and certainly at the top of my list too. Will Katee and Joshua be making an appearance at Cous Cous????
If so I’m there.

they should funnel the masses down to the Park and have a musical event, complete with vendors and the like, to make it all flow more smoothly & give the event what it is sorely lacking: a logical conclusion. As is, everyone is choked to death and packed in like sardines. This concept for the Watermelon festival would give it a much needed happy ending…
