Richmond Fisher House: A home away from home

Wayne Walker and his team at Richmond Fisher House have made it their goal to ease the hardships experienced by families of veterans injured in combat. The house was built in July 2008 by the Fisher House Foundation at the Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center location.

Dominion Riverrock photo contest

The second-annual Dominion Riverrock festival is happening May 14 and 15 on Brown’s Island. The two-day event celebrates sports, music and of course, fun on the James River. Just like last year, photographers of all skill levels can register to participate in a digital photo contest.

“They may photograph any Dominion Riverrock personality, competition, activity or venue they choose,” stated the DRR press release. “A panel of judges will be looking for the one overall image that captures the spirit of Dominion Riverrock.”

First, second, and third place prizes will be awarded in the amount of $500. Photos must be submitted in a digital format to be eligible to win. Winners will be announced on May 19 on the Sports Backers website.

Interested photographers can register online until 11:59pm on May 12 for $10 or on-site for $15.
