Here’s a simple solution to end the country’s financial crisis: legalize drugs.
I know a lot of people get hysterical at the mention of drug use. What twists me into fits is the billions and billions of our tax dollars that have and will continue to be spent trying to get people from using them. And that’s what should really drive you crazy when you think about drugs. Not the fact that people have and always will do drugs but the colossal waste of time, money and effort put into trying to stop their consumption. It is ludicrous.
I bring this up because of the amount of drug references in this week’s edition of the Bopst Show. I was a teenager when Nancy Reagan implored the nation’s youth to just say no. Did it work? No. It failed miserably. The ensuing years saw cocaine and heroine prices drop, the rise of crack and crystal meth and a whole new cornucopia of designer pharmaceuticals. America’s drug war is a sham of epic proportions and it is high time that we stop fighting it and start taxing it.
All I’m saying is that the rules that apply to alcohol and nicotine should apply to all drugs.
Anyway, regardless of how you feel about the legalization of drugs, hearing Ronald & Nancy Reagan advocating drug use is pretty damn funny in my book. I always thought they sounded stoned on something. Nancy had that vacant stare that just screamed pill freak. Also on this podcast, you’ll hear a heavily edited Bill Cosby telling a group of children to do and sell him drugs and a skit by Bob & Tom where a mother feeds her son bong hits before he leaves for school.
I want to say right now that I in no way advocate giving drugs to children. I just think it is funny hearing these people do so. Maybe you don’t, but that’s your business though I would suggest taking that stick out of your ass if it bothers you too much. Trust me, it will add years to your life.
In-between the infantile drug humor on this show, you’ll hear the 1970’s eastern rock sounds of Cambodian singer Ros Sereysothea, new music from 21st century sound generators Nara and Tiga, the Brazilian tropicália of the legendary Os Mutantes, the Palestinian hip hop of Dam and classics from Ian Dury & Blockheads, Flipper, Wanda Jackson, Gregory Isaacs and Charles Mingus. There is other stuff too but you’ll just have to listen to find out who they are or follow the links below.
The set list for this week’s show is posted on my MySpace page. Previous show set lists are on my blog.

Ah sweet relief! You, Mr. Bopst, are like the evil musical pusher man, and I have been in withdrawal all week.
Welcome back.

Great show. Brought back memories of “Rock Against Reagan” and “Bongs not Bombs” etc.
I also want to complement you on your well written, meaningful piece on Obama in Brick -best election article I’ve read so far.
