The Bopst Show - Episode 4
May 11, 2008 - 19:50
Welcome to road less traveled.
That’s one of my favorite poems of all time by Robert Frost and it kicks off this week’s edition of the Bopst Show.

No real theme this week other than there are only two types of music; good and otherwise. I have to thank Russell Cook, chef extraordinaire and my comrade at Millie’s Diner for the sausage complaint made by Texan Randy Taylor. Lord that is funny.
Also, be sure to use the request line people. Being a raging egomaniac, I need near constant reassurance that you are, in fact, listening to these podcasts. If you have problems leaving messages, be sure to state them here here so we can correct any problems you may be having. Your precious thoughts are too important to me for you not to be able to make them known.
Here is the number again: (804) 767-2550
Be sure to use it with alarming frequency. If you can’t be troubled to make a call, be sure to leave your comments, questions and concerns in comments section.
Well, I hope your enjoy this week’s episode of The Bopst Show.
Until next time;
Stay clean,
BOPST

i look forward to this show every week. hilarious. i spit beer from my nostrils two weeks ago immediately after the line “my parents’ are really nice people, motherfucker!”
I don’t know enough about the history of the Bopst Show to know if you’ve done this before, but I would like to hear an SST-themed show, with whatever derivatives you would think of. I know you dig the Bad Brains and the minutemen, etc., but who’s better, Fatso Jeston or Trotsky Icepick? Also, for music nerds, I think a show dedicated to non-4/4 time signatures would be cool. I nominate Spaceboy.
I was in a band (The Alter Natives) that was on SST records for almost 7 years…
hooray for painted willie!!! yeah??? anyone? no…? okay, fair enough.
let’s get real, real gone for a change…
My only advice to the sausage guy is to not keep things bottled up. Let them out, tell us how you really feel about the packaging. It does nobody any good to beat around the bush.
; )
Good show, Chris, keep em coming.
As far as a suggestion on themes for a show, how about a locals show.
Another oustanding show! I look forward to next week’s installment…
There’ve been themes?
Hi Chris,
There is supposedly an unreleased Alter Natives Album. Are there any digital versions of those tunes available anywhere in this universe?
Thanks,
John (the guy with the hat from 15 years ago)
and Erik (the bald guy with the glasses who only drank warm coke)
I was listening to your show at work and totally lost it when Randy Taylor came on. I didn’t realize that Southerners were required to eat Jimmy Dean Sausage for breakfast.
you think antony sounds anything like nina simone? he’s a dude but…
He sounds like Ninendra Simonehart…or Denina Banmone…hart…well you get what I mean.
Antony sounds like a mix of Nina Simone, Nick Drake & Jimmy Scott. That tune (My Lady Story) gives me goose bumps every time I hear it…
I’ve been meaning to call Randy Taylor. I wonder how the hell he is going to feed 600 ponds of man (& two plump ladies) on a teeny 12 oz. roll of sausage. I wish him luck…
and that Alter Natives release has yet to be mixed properly. There are some copies of it floating around, but none sound right. We did on an 8-track and in order to properly mix it, we need the right machine to do it.
Oh, and Brandon, there are, in fact, themes running through some of these podcasts. You just have to listen as if you were me…
Why didn’t I think of that?
How about a worst of SST podcast? along with the great stuff Greg Ginn put out some poorly produced boring bands.
Maybe an all slayer show. Or all frogs
I just can’t get enough. I smile from ear to ear everytime I play your shows. But 6% of the former volume of the BS (no offense intended, just shorttype)? OK, I am selfish. What can I say. Being a working guy with a family, I don’t even have time to play many of my own vinyl. So the BS is the musical refuge for me, whether paying bills late at night, or at the office, or just blarring from my computer while cleaning house. If you could do 15 hours a week at that piece of crap, the Clam, how about two hours a week on RVAnews.com? Or three?
Sure I can quit listening anytime, I just don’t want to.

I used to read your stuff over at Richmond.com. Your most recent show is the first time I’ve heard your show. Great work!

Thanks for the info Chris. Would you consider donations to make it happen?
I doubt there is much of a demand for an unreleased Alter Natives recording. Also, we would have to find a 8-track machine to do a mix on. I think it would be too much trouble for it’s throughly debatable worth…
Greg posted some of the rogh mixes we have on the Alter Natives MySpace page he set up: http://www.myspace.com/alternatives23
i like dis beter dan ur am radio thing, it sounds beter, im an egg-roll maniac

Chris,
I had the pleasure of dining at Millie’s Diner Friday June 27th. The food as always was amazing, but the music just had me captivated. I asked the staff what was playing, they said it was an IPOD and they pointed to you. Then they turned me on to your show on RVANews.com. I have played all the podcasts and can’t find what you were playing that night. I am sure with all your music, you may not recall what all you had on tap that night, but it was great and I would love to see a playlist of what you had on that night. Best wishes from your newest listener.
