The Sounds of Richmond are in Brooklyn?

Style Weekly’s Music Issue 2008 came out this week and one of their featured artists said to be contributing to “The Sounds of Richmond” is Emily Easterly, a Richmond defector who now lives in Brooklyn. Granted, she did get here start at places like Alley katz and Poe’s Pub, but I mean, did they really need to look up to New York to find people to feature? Haven’t they heard of something called The Eight Track?
Reminds me a little bit of the RTD also looking to the Big Apple to find food bloggers to write about.

Oh well, they tried and, for the most part, succeeded in exposing local music even if it now calls another city home. Any exposure for local music should be cheered especially from the city’s most read weekly. Style’s music issue will expose indigenous music making to a whole lot of people who know absolutely nothing about it.
I was also thrown off by Emily’s inclusion (although she is a lovely person and a good musician) since there are many awesome Richmond bands to write about that all appear to include Matt White. Matt is mentioned so often in Style (something like every week) that a column should be devoted to him. WTG, of course.
Did anyone see the picture of him in Brick wearing a bird suit?
It should be called MattWhiteWeekly. “What’s the man with the beard doing now?”

Yeah she still counts - you can bet Chicago counts Wilco whenever they can. (Do they still live there, though?) (This analogy might be worthless, now that I think about it.) (Kelly? Wilco stats please.)
I think Tweedy lives in Chicago’s version of Midlothian. Which counts, I suppose. But Richmond will claim ownership of any famous band/person as long as they or someone related to them has spent more than 20 minutes in the city.

Isn’t one of the 8 Track’s winners a singer-songwriter who also left Richmond for Brooklyn? Pot, meet kettle.
tis true tis true. i am eight track ceo and i will acknowledge very quickly that this is true. maybe it makes a difference and maybe it doesnt but J has moved there very recently and i had no idea when i asked him to be involved that he had even left. anyhow, nothing against J as he is a good friend of mine and i am a big supporter but I would not have asked him to be involved if I had known he had moved. anyhow, for what its worth i thought i put that out there.
