Dude. I’m making a vegetarian chili tonight with Penzey’s spices. Should be amazing.

    SO JEALOUS!

Did you, thrifty Sam, even enjoy Penzys?

I did enjoy Penzey’s. I bought the small sizes of their traditional chili powder, cumin, and dried california basil. I also got a large-sized ground black pepper because I use so much of that and wanted to see if their pepper was up to snuff. All that for under $10 as well. It would have been that much or more at Kroger, with clearly inferrior spices (albeit larger sizes).

I was impressed with how knowledgable all the associates were. They have a visiting manager from Houston to help run things and train the staff, and they’ve also given a crash-course to the employees there. Their “Red and Black” seasoning looks great - I may give that a try next.

What a perfect day for chili! I’ll let you know how it turns out.

I enjoy their sweet curry powder. I.e. “sweet curry powder,” not sweeeeet “curry powder.” As recommended by Cook’s Illustrated!

Got something to say?
