The positive note for us here in Fredericksburg is that, as far as I can tell … the firestorm of desire to create community-news-focused Web content hasn’t quite caught on in a big way…YET. [source]
Whew, no community blogs in Fredricksburg! The concerned, albeit uninformed, citizenry rejoices!
PS. Is that Fredricksburg.com blog really called “Generic Blog?” That is either ridiculous or genius.
This does nothing to change my basic understanding of Fredericksburg (or really Spotsylvania) as basically Northern Virginia’s trailer park.
I think it’s a matter of one or two people really getting fired up to get it done. As a Fredericksburger (ah, home) I know that the area is ripe for something like that, and that it could be done properly and much better by someone other than the Free Lance Star. Especially since “John Q. Doe” write like a regular ol’ journal blogger and can’t figure out how to have the author’s actual name pop up under each post (seems multiple people post on the blog).
Time to put some feelers out with the old pals up in F’burg…
Ahhh multiple authors! I was confused since the post right above the community blog post found IndyMedia “neat.” It didn’t seem very consistent.
Plus, I can’t believe he’s complaining about nobody commenting. It took me 20 minutes to post my comment (after logging on and registering with their website) and it still wasn’t posted when I was done! They probably have to sensor it first. Totally not worth my time.

The days where we can tell ourselves that news isn’t news until the FLS or some other MSM has reported on it are long gone. People want to know what we know when we know it. If we don’t give it to them fast enough, we lose credibility and they go elsewhere - blog, discussion forum, wherever.
Just something to consider as we prepare to discuss the merits of breaking news and what it means on the Web.
It’s easy to mock FredTalk or laugh off community blogs, but in these two cases (and many others), they’re doing our jobs better (or at least faster!) than we are.
And it seems to me like this is supposed to be an in-house blog of some sort. Interesting, tho.
